You're excited to begin your career in the sport and performance psychology field as a mental performance coach, and yet - you're hours away from finishing the requirements for the Certified Mental Performance Consultant®️ credential through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).
I'm glad you're here - and appreciate you considering me as your mentor!
Whether you're in the final part of your graduate program or you're an early career practitioner, mentorship is an educational opportunity for you to grow as a mental performance coach. As a CMPC Mentor, my role is to:
I strive to do this by meeting you where you are, understanding your learning needs, facilitating your work toward your career goals, and supporting your learning and growth as a mental performance coach and person in general. Mentorship with me aligns with AASP requirements for the CMPC credential, while building a professional working relationship with you in the process.
Within individual mentorship, we'll engage in a variety of learning methods, such as discussion, feedback on your sessions, reflection, exploration of new ideas for sessions, demonstrations, role play, and dialogue about ways to apply theory and research to practice. My goal is to help you become a qualified, independent, impactful mental performance coach - and to be a source of support in the process (and beyond!).
As a mental performance coach since 2011, CMPC in private practice since 2015, and CMPC Mentor since 2017, I have a variety of experiences working in the field of sport and performance psychology. I'm also committed to continually improving myself - as a professional, mentor, entrepreneur, and person.
In addition to my background in sport and performance psychology, I have extensive knowledge around facilitation, debriefing/reflection, positive youth development, online consulting, and entrepreneurship. These areas heavily inform my work and mentorship, as well as my perspective in general.
After mentorship sessions, it is common for me to email mentees with articles, book chapters, podcast episodes, and other resources that build upon what we discussed. Ideally this helps you to keep learning between sessions and facilitate a science-to-practice approach to your mental performance work.
I believe that structure and organization help the mentorship process to run smoothly - and allow for flexibility, creativity, and connection. Behind the scenes as a mentor, I have a process, templates, and tools to stay organized. These help me to keep a pulse on your goal progress, adjust as needed, and have important information at my fingertips as you prepare your CMPC application.
I approach mentees from a place of genuine support, kindness, and encouragement - while also being a mentor who will teach you and challenge you. I want to get to know you as a professional and a person. I'm known to put a lot of effort into mentorship, provide detailed and meaningful feedback, help you learn to think for yourself, and be a trusted guide as you develop into a quality practitioner.
The Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) is my professional home. I've been a member since 2010 and have served in various capacities since then, including as a subject matter expert for the CMPC Certification Exam Review Process (2016-2018; 2021) and for the AASP-CSPA Job Analysis for CMPCs (2023). I am also an active member of the Study and Practice of Supervision Special Interest Group and frequently present at conferences.
While I have a variety of experiences as a mental performance coach, my specialty is supporting high-achieving teen swimmers and runners who are struggling with performance anxiety (and sometimes also perfectionism) and teaching them mental skills to calm their nerves, show up more authentically, perform better, and enjoy their sport again. I mostly work online and one-on-one.
Due to this, I am most interested in mentoring those who have a passion for supporting young people, particularly teenage student-athletes, and want to learn how to be effective with this age group in mental performance work.
To begin mentorship with me, new mentees must:
I offer mentorship at a discounted rate of $125 an hour for individual mentorship sessions and $50 an hour for content review (e.g., audio/video recording observation, handouts, slide decks, and other materials).
All mentorship sessions will be virtual on Google Meet.
The cadence of mentorship sessions will depend upon your client load, schedule, goals, and needs. Sessions are often once a week, every other week, or once a month. Mentees are recommended to engage in at least one hour of mentorship for every 10 hours of direct client contact.
Mentees who are a good fit for me are detail-oriented, organized, kind, receptive to feedback, take initiative, have integrity, are committed to getting better as a person and professional, and want to excel as a mental performance coach.
Due to bandwidth, I can only accept 1-2 mentees a year. Please email me with questions and to inquire about availability and getting started with a complimentary initial meeting.
